Brian Eno Encourages Backing to Get Palestinian Solidarity Track to UK Festive Top Spot.
A campaign is aiming to launch a traditional song from Palestine to the top of the UK charts. The project seeks to deliver assistance to Gaza's residents while also highlighting Palestinian culture and creativity.
A Possibility for Unity and an "Chart Upset"
Composer and producer Brian Eno, who contributes to the track, stated that the single 'Lullaby' represents a opportunity to stand with Palestinians over the Christmas period. He acknowledged the potential for an unexpected chart success.
“It would be fantastic if that came to pass, yes,” he said. “I won't be completely let down if it doesn’t, Christmas singles are a category of their own.”
Powerful Theme of Dignity and Freedom
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who performs on the reimagining of a cultural piece called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the track's powerful central theme.
“It has a very special place for many individuals,” Barghouti shared. “The message is that I would prefer a dignified death than live a life without freedom. That is the core idea of the song; we seek to lead a life of dignity that we are entitled to as Palestinians.”
Recording Origins and Contributing Musicians
The track was produced following a large-scale benefit event held in the autumn. Originally intended to be done as a live recording, the rendition was cut from the show due to time constraints.
The diverse array of musicians appearing on Lullaby features a range of prominent voices from the industry. All were part of the earlier concert, which managed to collect a substantial amount for charitable causes.
Creation and Launch
Lullaby was produced by a group of music creators. The track showcases a mix of the traditional Arabic lyrics with contemporary English verses.
The team running the initiative have clarified that their objective is to generate maximum funds for a dedicated fund. These resources will be allocated to Palestinian causes through an non-profit partner.
“We haven't set a specific target,” a spokesperson explained. “We’ll go for as much as possible. Of course, the more the merrier. All proceeds are directed out to those in need in Gaza.”
The situation in the area was noted for its widespread damage, with a overwhelming percentage of property said to be destroyed or damaged.
“Given that reality, a couple of million won't make that much difference. But I think the significant factor is primarily raising awareness for this issue and showing that another narrative exists.”
The single 'Lullaby' is set to be released this Friday. Additionally, a complete film of the benefit event will be made accessible to view on a digital service from the 19th of December.
