Followers Demand Custody of Person Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Loyal fans of the actress are demanding that a person who leaped a barrier and grabbed the celebrity during the recent Wicked: For Good premiere be arrested or deported from Singapore.
A viral footage reveals the Australian man pushing past media personnel and rushing toward Grande while the performers walked down a yellow carpet surrounded by onlookers.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo promptly pulled the shocked star away from Mr Wen, who was seen being led away of the event by guards.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "free after being detained", though court documents indicated that he was due to attend court on Friday morning. It is unknown if he was formally accused.
History of Incidents
This is part of a pattern for Mr Wen, who describes himself as a "Notorious Troublemaker", has invaded a celebrity gathering. His Instagram feed includes recordings of him interrupting other star-studded functions, including breaching the performance area at the artist's Sydney performance in earlier this year and in a like fashion during The Chainsmokers event in the same location last December.
"There needs to be action enforced against him as this is obviously a criminal offence," wrote an Instagram user, in a reply to a video Mr Wen posted of his act.
"You've done this repeatedly... how are you not behind bars?" a different Instagram user questioned.
Fans Show Disapproval Over the Star's Safety
Several supporters blamed Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had spoken of dealing with trauma-related anxiety after a suicide bomb attack at the finale of her spring 2017 show in Manchester, killing 22 people and injuring many.
"After everything she's faced... including the Manchester attack, you considered it entertaining to rush the barrier?" said another message on Instagram.
Some attendees also faulted guards at the gathering for not being sufficiently alert; while others demanded digital services to remove Mr Wen's videos.
Reaction and Premiere Information
In clips spreading on the internet, Grande seemed startled when she was approached by the man. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed comforting her while Mr Wen was escorted away by guards.
Grande has not commented on the situation, and the premiere activities carried on uninterrupted.
Hundreds of supporters had gathered in a crowd of emerald and rose at the Wicked: For Good regional debut in a Singapore shopping center, including several who had stood in line for as long as many hours before it began.
The motion picture, to be released on November 21, is the sequel of a dual interpretation of the well-known theatrical production Wicked, which centers on the unlikely bond between two very different characters.
The show itself is a adaptation of the twentieth-century children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who portrays the character Glinda Glinda, was decked out in a light pink glittering gown at the premiere while Erivo, who plays the wicked witch, wore a black tube gown embroidered with roses.
They were accompanied by fellow actor Jeff Goldblum.
The first movie, Wicked, was the most successful film of the previous year in the UK, and earned ten award recognitions, earning two for best costume and artistic direction.
