Across the fiercely cutthroat world of video games, it's common for fresh competitors to fade away as swiftly as they explode onto the landscape.
But Battlefield 6 is hoping to alter that.
This is the most recent addition in a long-running military shooter line commonly described as a grittier response to its main competitor.
The title has not quite managed to rival its top rival in terms of sales or players, but indicators suggest the latest version could close the gap.
A preview event enabling players a chance to try out the game earlier this year broke records, and the hype leading up to its launch has been huge.

The game comes off the release of the advanced Battlefield 2042, launched previously to a poor feedback it struggled to recover from.
"We most likely couldn't create and produce the latest entry lacking the learnings we had in the last release," the manager tells our team.
A key those lessons was to get fans participating soon, and the team initiated invite-only community testing sessions earlier this year.
Their "response was extremely encouraging," says the manager.
One more omitted ingredient from the last game was a solo experience, which has been reintroduced for this release.
Criterion creative lead the design director is the individual in charge of "making sure those stages are as fun and compelling as possible for the gamers."
In spite of reports that the scope of the title had created pressure for the various teams collaborating globally to build the title, he is upbeat about the work.
"Partnering with diverse perspectives, different experiences, it's a very engaging atmosphere to be engaged with every day," he says.
"This whole strategy has been an innovation but something really thrilling because we are partnering with individuals from internationally."
Concerning the anticipation on the developers, the director says: "We feel stress but at the same time it's thrilling.
"We're dealing with a big undertaking. It's arguably the most significant that most of us have ever participated in."
Emerging Artist Adds New Insight
That's absolutely true of at least a single team member, lighting artist the artist.
This young professional produces the visual ambiance that define the atmosphere, feel, and narrative of the single-player campaign.
Vlad undertook an internship at the studio prior to obtaining a job there, and presently works part-time while concluding his visual effects degree at Bournemouth University.
He states he's a long-standing supporter of the franchise, and recalls enjoying the fourth instalment of the series at a pal's home when he was a child.
