The Details Known Concerning the Those Lost of the Bondi Terrorist Incident

At least 16 individuals perished and more than 40 sustained injuries when attackers shot at a Hanukah gathering at Bondi Beach, an attack Australian authorities have labeled a act of terrorism.

As of the newest reports, authorities have stated the number of fatalities is 16, encompassing one of the alleged attackers. Moreover, 42 injured people were transported to medical facilities.

Those who died have not yet been officially identified, but authorities state their ages range from 10 and 87 years old.

Eli Schlanger

London-born rabbi Eli Schlanger, 41, was the first victim to be named.

Known as a father of five children, he served as the assistant rabbi at Chabad of Bondi. Family members and acquaintances spoke of him as “lively, dynamic, and vibrant and a very kind and sociable person who loved to help people”.

“How can a joyful rabbi who went to a beach to share joy and positivity, to make the world a better place, have his life ended in this way?” a family member asked.

Schlanger and his wife celebrated the birth of their newest son in October.

Alexander Kleytman

Alexander Kleytman was also among those killed, according to his wife.

She recounted the events before the attack, stating they were standing when the gunfire started. “He moved to protect me because he wished to be near me,” she said.

The pair were both survivors of the Holocaust, having endured immense hardship in their childhood. They had subsequently relocated to Australia from Eastern Europe.

Dan Elkayam

French foreign ministry have announced that French man Dan Elkayam is among the dead.

In a statement, the Foreign Minister said that France shared the grief of his family and loved ones, the Jewish community, and the Australian people.

“This cowardly attack is a fresh and tragic example of a revolting outpouring of hatred against Jews that we must put a stop to,” the message continued.

One Child

A child who was taken to the a children's hospital succumbed to her injuries, authorities stated.

One Israeli Citizen

One victim from Israel was among those killed in the incident, as per reports referencing the Israeli government.

Those Injured

From the 42 people transported to hospitals, a significant number remain under care, with a number in a critical state. The injured include two officers who attended the scene.

A casualty is a bystander who rushed to the scene to confront one of the attackers. Described as a hero, he received bullet wounds but is expected to recover in hospital.

Arsen Ostrovsky

One of those wounded is Arsen Ostrovsky, a human rights lawyer. It has been reported he was injured and is receiving treatment in hospital.

He wrote, he recounted the scene as an “utter carnage,” but also praised the actions of those who rushed to help. He stated he felt it was a “stroke of luck” he survived.

Evan Zlatkis

Evan Zlatkis, a community director, was another casualty in the shooting. He described he listened to “a large number” of shots.

“Initially, I believed it was something less lethal, but it’s gone into my own skin and into my leg,” he said. “I sustained a gunshot wound. They bandaged me up. I’m ok.”
