The Two Fatalities Revealed in the Providence Campus Incident as Police Continue Hunt for Gunman.
Both young individuals who died in the recent tragic incident on the university campus were being remembered Monday – while an intensive search for their shooter persisted following the discharge by authorities in Rhode Island of the sole person questioned in the case.
Tributes for Ella Cook
The young woman Ella Cook, a second-year student from Alabama, was remembered as “an amazing, stable, pious, radiant soul”, as stated by the Cathedral Church of the Advent, Birmingham, which offered condolences for her at a service on Sunday.
She served as vice-president of Brown’s branch of the College Republicans organization, the group said. The White House press secretary also expressed sympathies on social media, saying in part: “It's indescribable. Thinking of her kin and peers, especially her parents.”
MukhammadAziz Umurzokov
The other person killed was MukhammadAziz Umurzokov from Uzbekistan, an Uzbek national in his initial year at the prestigious university, family members said.
The victim's identification was verified by the Uzbek Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“He was incredibly kind, funny, and smart. His ambitions were lofty of becoming a neurosurgeon and aiding others,” his sibling Samira said in a memorial statement.
Details of the Attack
Nine other people were injured in Saturday’s attack in the engineering building of Brown’s university in Providence, during the institution's end-of-term tests.
Authorities said late Sunday that a 24-year-old male detained in a search at a Hampton Inn about approximately 17 miles from the campus earlier in the day was released from custody.
“We have a murderer out there,” stated Peter Neronha, Peter Neronha.
He continued, “Occasionally a probe goes down a path, and then you have to regroup and pursue a different angle, and that’s exactly what has happened over the last day or so.”
Public Fear
The city's mayor, Brett Smiley, admitted: “This will probably generate fresh anxiety for our public”.
The shooter opened fire inside a lecture hall in the engineering facility on Saturday afternoon, firing more than 40 rounds from a 9mm handgun, a police source told the Associated Press.
Police that raided the hotel found two firearms and two loaded 30-round magazines when the person of interest was detained, as was reported.
The Wounded Victims
Of the nine hurt, one pupil was discharged from care, said Brown’s president, Christina Paxson. Seven more were in critical but stable condition, and one remained in critical care, authorities stated on Sunday.
A private school, a independent school in Durham, North Carolina, said a recent graduate, Kendall Turner, was among those critically wounded.

Cook was remembered at a religious service in Birmingham on Sunday. A reverend stated, “She was an incredible, grounded, faithful bright light not only in her youth... but at the university she was an incredible light in that specific location as well.”
