Trump Welcomes Relatives of Attacked National Guard Members to the Presidential Residence
Former President Donald Trump stated on Sunday that he has extended an invitation the family of a Guard member tragically killed last week to attend the presidential home.
He added that he contacted her family and they were “deeply grieving”.
Details on the Heartbreaking Shooting
US army specialist Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was killed in a attack on Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her colleague, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, is still in the hospital in grave state.
Vigils across the state have been held in their memory.
White House Invitation
The commander-in-chief said he’s proposed a meeting at the presidential residence for the parents of both soldiers of the state Guard.
“I stated: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a hard experience, arrive at the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to her,” the president told journalists. “And likewise with him, recover or not.”
Community Support
Attendees gathered over the past few days at a local school in the state to remember Beckstrom.
Both she and Wolfe had been fulfilling duties with the state guard as part of the president’s federal initiative to assist law enforcement in Washington DC.
Paying Tribute to the Soldier
“Sarah was the kind of student that instructors desired. She conducted herself with quiet strength, a warm expression and a optimistic attitude that encouraged those around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the head of her previous school, stated to the media. “She was kind, compassionate and always ready to support those in need.”
Memorial details for Sarah are yet to be finalized.
Judicial Measures and Government Revisions
Officials have accused a 29-year-old individual from Afghanistan with one count of homicide and two counts of violent assault while carrying a weapon.
The event caused the government to halt asylum applications and halt issuing entry permits to possessors of Afghan passports.
Condition of Wolfe
Andrew Wolfe, a native of Martinsburg, enlisted in 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of his local high school, per the news agency.
He continues to receive treatment and is “battling to survive”, West Virginia leader Morrisey mentioned on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.
The state’s top lawyer the attorney general told a news show that she also intended to speak to his relatives.
Impact of Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from her hometown, graduated from Webster County High in June 2023 and enlisted soon after, working as a law enforcement officer with excellence, according to the military.
“She had a lot of kindness and she absolutely had bravery,” he informed the gathering at the vigil. “Though her time was cut short, she has left a mark that’s going to endure.”
